Occupational Medicine

Setting The Standard For Occupational Medicine

Occupational Medicine is the branch of clinical medicine that deals with the evaluation, treatment, and prevention of illnesses of workers and the study of occupational health problems. Typically, an occupational medical physician has completed an additional two to three years of specialized training in Occupational Medicine. These physicians are certified by the American Board of Preventive Medicine (ABPM).

Here at Advanced OccMed, we offer occupational medicine services to assist employers in caring for their workforce. This includes screening tests, post-offer/new hire health exams, return to work exams, TB skin testing, DOT physicals, and FAA exams, to name a few. Our staff can answer your questions and provide you with the quality care that you come to expect from an occupational medicine clinic.

What is Occupational Medicine?

The goal of occupational medicine, commonly referred to as "occupational health," is to treat illnesses and injuries that occur in the workplace.  Occupational medicine specialists are trained to diagnose and treat work related injuries and illnesses efficiently.  At Advanced OccMed, we can create the best treatment plans and conduct regulatory examinations because we are up to date on federal and state regulations for workforce health and safety. Our staff are up to date on regulations set forth by the Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA), the Department of Transportation (DOT), and the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA). Furthermore, our occupational doctors frequently collaborate directly with employers to keep businesses operating and employees safe and healthy at work.

Preventing and treating workplace injuries and illnesses a primary focus of occupational medicine.  Working with a specialist can help improve worker productivity and morale and reduce absenteeism.  Employers save money on workers' compensation costs when working with an occupational medicine specialist.

There is growing evidence that supports the benefits of occupational medicine.  Workers who received care from an occupational physician were more likely to return to work sooner than those who did not. Another study found that occupational medicine interventions can reduce the risk of job-related injuries by up to 50%.

The benefits of occupational medicine are clear. It is a vital tool for protecting workers' health and safety and ensuring that employers can operate their businesses effectively and efficiently.
