Travel Vaccinations

Setting The Standard For Travel Vaccinations

Advanced OccMed offers comprehensive travel consultations to review your unique medical history and what prophylactic measures we can advise on and provide for you to help you have a healthy and safe experience. We will discuss your specific travel itinerary and focus on which vaccines and medications you may need for the area of the world you will be visiting.

What Are Travel Vaccinations

Vaccines protect travelers from potentially severe infections that are more prevalent in other areas of the world. Depending on where you visit, there are risks of exposure to diseases that have essentially been eradicated in the United States.  Getting vaccinated will significantly decrease your risk of developing certain illnesses while traveling abroad.

Prior to Travel

We recommend you schedule a consultation with us at least one month prior to your departure.  This allows ample time to receive vaccines and allow your immune system to develop immunity to the diseases for which the vaccines are administered.  We will assist you in obtaining destination-specific immunizations, medications, and educational material. We will discuss your specific health issues, as well as your schedule and planned activities.

Travel Vaccinations and Immunizations FAQ's

It is critical to get vaccinated at least 4 to 6 weeks before your trip. This gives the immunizations time to begin acting, ensuring your protection while traveling. It will also usually ensure that you have ample time to acquire immunizations that require more than one dosage.

Your primary care physician may be able to give you some travel immunizations. If you or your healthcare provider need assistance locating a place that offers specific immunizations or medications, go to the CDC’s Find a Clinic page.

If yellow fever vaccination is advised or required for your location, you must visit a vaccine center, such as Advanced OccMed, that is authorized to administer yellow fever immunizations. We are an authorized yellow fever vaccination clinic and offer other pre-travel health services.

A travel clinic is a medical facility that focuses on travel medicine. Before you go, you should think about the environment you’ll be in and the diseases or disorders you might encounter. Advanced OccMed offers travel clinic services to assist you with your travel vaccinations and immunizations. Our team is familiar with the different needs of the different countries to ensure you get the travel vaccinations and immunizations you need to keep you safe while traveling.

Travel medicine is a discipline of medicine that focuses on diseases that arise during foreign travel.

A travel clinic, such as Advanced OccMed, can assist you in preparing for forthcoming travel. When traveling to foreign countries, it is critical to speak with a doctor who specializes in travel medicine so that you are prepared for any issues that may arise due to exposure to a new environment.

A travel clinic can help you prepare for the following conditions that are regularly encountered abroad:

  • Tuberculosis
  • Malaria
  • Altitude and motion sickness
  • Diarrhea in travelers

To keep you safe, our travel experts can give you travel immunizations and preventive drugs you will need. Travel doctors at our clinic can also advise you on general precautions to take in the location you are visiting. Also, we can discuss additional precautions to take if you have a chronic illness or disease.

Depending on the place you visit, there may also be particular entrance requirements, such as confirmation of certain vaccinations. We will discuss these criteria at your appointment and provide the necessary documents to allow you to travel smoothly abroad. We may also recommend a follow-up appointment when you return, depending on the place you are visiting and the length of your stay.

When you visit a travel clinic, it is beneficial for the doctor to have your medical history and a full itinerary of your vacation plans. You should bring a list of medications that you are taking as well. If you have access to your medical records, a copy of those would be helpful. If not, you should discuss any and all medical procedures you have had with our providers. This will allow us to serve you better and ensure the vaccinations we are about to administer are safe. Here is a quick checklist of things we will need:

  • A listing of your medical conditions, medications, and/or allergies
  • Vaccination records
  • A comprehensive trip schedule that includes dates, destinations, and activities.
  • Medical insurance card
  • Identification with a photograph
  • Yellow Fever
  • Typhoid
  • Hepatitis A
  • Japanese Encephalitis
  • Tick Borne Encephalitis
  • Rabies
  • Tdap
  • Adult Polio Booster
  • Influenza
